Old Business

1. November activities were discusses. The current schedule includes a
Grant Writing Workshop on 11/8, a Web Page Workshop series on 11/8 and 15,
Lion Dance Presentation on 11/13 and a PowerPoint Workshop series on
11/26, 12/3 and 5. A Photoshop 6.0 workshop series is in the works. The
Native Hawaiian Program has offered the use of their computer lab and
software license. An instructor needs to be found. Once found the
workshop series can be scheduled.

2. Jerry encouraged all members to continue to look at the Faculty
Development website and send any needed changes (information updated, dead
links, edits, etc.) to him for fixing.

3. Jerry collected Entertainment Book checks and stated that there are
only eight books left to be sold and encouraged that these books be sold
as soon a possible so the fundraiser project can be finalized. The
committee will sell 42 books. Including cash donations, this will net
$300 for the Faculty Development Foundation account.

New Business

1. The Faculty Mentor Program was discussed. Jerry stated that as of the
November 1 deadline, only two mentor forms were returned. No mentoree
forms were returned. No match-ups were necessary. Jerry stated he would
contact the mentoree requesters from the spring semester to see if a
relationship had been established and if not, offer the new mentors as
possible matches.

2. The Professional Development applications were discussed. Twelve
applications were received by the deadline. Four of these are for "major
travel." The Committee decided to defer making a decision on these until
the spring semester. They will be evaluated with the other "major travel"
requests that will be submitted then. Eight requests for $950 were
approved. Jerry will contact the awardees and the Fiscal Officer for
distribution of the funds.

Open Discussion

1. Lei Lani suggested that links to professional organizations which are
having upcoming conferences be linked from the Faculty Development
Website. All agreed this is a good idea. Lei Lani will solicit this
information from the faculty members and Jerry will make the links from
the website.

2. Lei Lani also suggested that the approved assigned time requests be
posted on the Faculty Development Website. These approved requests would
give other faculty ideas about what can be done on assigned time. Jerry
agreed to investigate the feasibility of this.

3. Xin suggested that copies of successful grant applications be placed on
reserve in the Library along with the current samples of Tenure/Promotion
Dossiers and Reappointment Applications. All agreed this is a good idea.
Jerry will send out an email solicitation for these. Lei Lani suggested
that these also be posted on the Faculty Development Website. Jerry
agreed to investigate the feasibility of this.

4. The following computer workshops were suggested to be offered during
the spring semester-
 - advanced PowerPoint including putting video clips into a PowerPoint
	presentation
 - additional web site development
 - digital video editing

5. It was agreed that no Faculty Development Committee meeting be held in
December. The January meeting will be scheduled after the spring schedule
is set and a day and time can be chosen.

Allen conducted a very informative tour of the RAC facility.

The meeting was adjourned at 3:40 pm.
