Assessment #is more than grading

Assessment is more than keeping score. We can use assessment for better teaching and student learning. We can implement assessments of learning and give feedback in many ways. Use these resources to consider classroom assessment, student surveys, rubrics and student passports.

Workplace and Core Skills:

  • Model Workplace Habits Rating Scale (This takes assessment into the domain of workplace skills: from communication to work-habits)
  • Considering Core Abilities: these are different than course competencies in that they are not course-specific. They are not taught in “lessons.” Instead, they are broader skills that run through courses and lessons. They “enable learners to perform competencies.”
  • Considering Core Skills: What kind of skills need to be in place for your student to learn? How can you design your lesson to ensure they are metacognitive about how to use and develop these skills.
