Medical Care
The Health Office does not have a physician or nurse practitioner on staff who can prescribe medications or treatments. The registered nurse on staff cares only for minor injuries that occur on campus. Referrals are made or an ambulance is requested when indicated at the expense of the patient. Students who need medical care but who do not have medical insurance may consider contacting these clinics (no endorsement implied):
- University Health Services at Manoa, call 956-8965
- Kalihi-Palama Health Center, call 848-1438
- Queen Emma Clinic (Info Line), call 547-4582
- Waikiki Health Center, call 922-4787
Anyone with an illness or injury beyond the nurse's scope of practice will be referred to a medical provider. In the event of a serious injury or illness, an ambulance will be called and the client will be taken to the nearest emergency room at the expense of the client. If the injury is minor, call the Health Office and request to speak to the nurse at 845-9282 (voice/text). Do not proceed directly to the Health Office without first having checked whether the nurse is there. Student assistants working in the Health Office are unable to render first aid care.
- For life-threatening condition, call 911 immediately.
- Send someone to meet emergency crew, if possible.
- Call Security at 284-1270 or 271-4836 for further assistance.
- If no answer, weekday business hours call 845-9142 (Operations & Maintenance) or the Director of Administrative Services at 294-9123.
- An incident report and/or UH Form 29 [PDF] should be completed and turned in immediately after any emergency to the Vice Chancellor of Administrative Services.
