- FACULTY EVALUATIONS:
- During the first two weeks of the semester, the Division Chair
assigns the evaluating faculty member to a lecturer and notifies the
lecturer of the evaluator. The lecturer then provides the evaluator
with the course syllabus and any other materials or information the
lecturer considers important or the evaluator requests.
- During the eighth or ninth week of the semester, the evaluator
attends the lecturer's class session and evaluates instruction according
to established criteria. A copy of the form is attached here.
- During the following week, the evaluator and lecturer meet to
discuss the evaluation.
- If both agree on all points, the evaluator gives one copy to the
lecturer and forwards another to the Division Chair.
- If revisions are agreed upon, the evaluator makes the changes
within the week and forwards copies to the lecturer and the Division
Chair.
- If revisions are not agreed upon, the lecturer has the option of
submitting a rebuttal to the Division Chair. In this case, the
rebuttal becomes part of the evaluation packet.
- STUDENT EVALUATIONS:
- An announcement will appear in the HCC Bulletin with specific
information on the evaluation process and absolute deadlines.
- During the last two weeks of instruction, the lecturer picks up
student evaluation forms and instructions from the Educational Media
Center.
- Students first complete the course information section and then
answer the items dealing with the quality of instruction.
- The student representative designated by the lecturer takes the
completed evaluation forms to the Academic Computer Center, Building 2,
Room 405, and signs the log to indicate delivery.
- Prior to the next class meeting, the lecturer checks the log to
ensure that the forms have been received.
- After final grades are submitted, the Academic Computing Center
returns these student evaluations and a summary to the lecturer.
- LECTURER SELF-EVALUATIONS:
- The lecturer integrates faculty and student evaluations with
personal perceptions of classroom instruction over the previous
semester.
- During the first two weeks of the semester, the lecturer prepares
a one-page self-evaluation and submits it, along with the faculty and
student evaluations, to the Division Chair.
- The Division Chair reads the packet and transmits it to the Division
Assistant Dean (2 weeks).
