| The following are tips submitted from individual faculty on campus in regards to
liability issues in the classroom and/or lab. If you want to contribute a tip, click
here (doug@hcc.hawaii.edu) and send it via
e-mail to Doug Madden, 1998-99 Faculty Development Coordinator.
- If you have a work in a lab or shop and you take time off for lunch or a
break, make sure everyone takes the break. Don't let some students remain. If
you are in your office and not in the lab or shop, you could be liable for the
students if they don't leave.
- If there are multiple sections of students in a lab or shop with multiple
instructors, and you take a break but leave your students under the supervion
of another instructor, double check to make sure your students and the other
instructor are aware of the arrangement.
- If you have a complicated setup or a setup that involves very expensive
equipment (like electronic equipment) in a lab or the shop, put "STOPS" in the
setup instuctions where the student must stop and have you check the setup
before he/she goes on.
