Composition

There are three Division Curriculum Committees (one for the University College, one for Tech1 and one for Tech2). The committees will be staffed as follows:

  • The University College, Nine (9) members: One representative from each of the following areas: Math, Science, Language Arts, Social Sciences, and Humanities. One representative from Academic Support, one representative from Student Services, one Division Chair (to be determined by the members of the University College), and the Dean of the University College.
  • Tech1, Eight (8) members: Five representatives elected at large from the faculty in Tech1 and PATC, one member from Student Services, the Division Chair, and the Dean of Tech1.
  • Tech2: Eight (8) members: One representative from each of the following areas: Communication Arts, CENT and ICS, COSME, and Human Services; one representative from Fashion and Administration of Justice combined; one member from Student Services, the Division Chair, and the Dean of Tech2.

Staggered two-year terms are recommended on each committee to provide continuity.

Full-time faculty members who will not be physically absent from campus (i.e., on sabbatical/leave/exchange) are automatically nominated for DCC elections which are held each spring.

The Committee of Committees will strive to select members for the Division Curriculum Committees from those faculty who are not serving on Division Personnel Committes. To whatever degree possible, those faculty who are serving on DPCs should not be placed on the slate of nominees for the DCCs.

Purpose

The Division Curriculum Committees represent the curriculum interests of each division, and reviews course and program proposals originating within the division prior to those proposals being sent to the CPC.

Function

Each Division Curriculum Committee:

  • Approves and recommends amendments to curriculum and courses.
  • Recommends curriculum and course proposals to the Committee on Programs and Curricula (CPC).
  • Makes recommendations to the CPC on other divisional curriculum matters as may arise.
  • Ensures that the appropriate information as required by system and college procedures be included in each curriculum and course proposal.
  • Selects a liaison to serve as a non-voting member of the CPC.

Workload

Although these Committees usually meet only once per month, the workload for the members of a DCC can at times be very heavy. It is expected that proposals be reviewed in depth and be evaluated within the context of departmental and College-wide educational development plans.
