Composition

  • Health and Safety Coordinator (Chairperson)
  • HCC Safety Liaisons from all programs
  • Director of Administrative Services
  • Health Nurse (Secretary)

Ad Hoc committees may be formed to work on specific health and safety issues and the frequency of its meeting will be determined by the committee's members. Safety Liaisons can join an ad hoc committee voluntarily.

Each Safety Liaison shall serve on the committee for a period of two years. Any member who wishes to continue to serve on the Committee after his/her term expires, may do so if the members of his/her department/cluster agree. For continuity, terms will be staggered. The first year when this procedure becomes effective, one-half of the representatives shall serve for one year.

Purpose

The Health and Safety Committee acts as liaison between the administration, students, faculty, and staff in matters pertaining to health and safety.

Function

The Health and Safety Committee:

  • Assists in identifying campus health and safety needs.
  • Assists in identifying concerns for persons with disabilities.
  • Promotes health and safety education activities in response to identified needs.
  • Recommends and supports health and safety programs.
  • Recommends corrective actions for hazardous conditions and/or safety and health related problems.
  • Plans and carries out the plans for the annual Safety Awareness Day.

Workload

Committee holds one face-two-face meeting each semester, prior to the beginning of instructional period. Members are kept updated on safety issues throughout the semester via electronic communication.
