#### MATH 50P - Technical Mathematics

• Major Restriction: Applied Trades AS

Basic algebra, geometry, and measurements as applied to shop problems. Solving algebraic equations and geometry with formulas. Developing skills in problems solving and analysis. Restricted to students in the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard (PHNSY)

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of MATH 50P, the student will be able to:

• Perform arithmetic operations with rational numbers and demonstrate a clear understanding of order of operations
• Evaluate and solve formulas
• Solve simple linear equations
• Solve applied word and diagrammed problems
• Read, interpret and draw bar, line, and circle graphs
• Measure lengths and angles using appropriate tools
• Convert measurements (in metric and English systems)
• Determine the precision, accuracy, and number of significant digits of measurement numbers
• Compute powers and roots of rational numbers
• Evaluate expressions using scientific notation
• Solve for sides of the right triangle, using the Pythagorean Theorem
• Solve ratio and proportion problems
• Convert, add, and subtract angles in degrees-minutes-seconds
• Compute perimeters, arc length, and areas of two dimensional figures
