Please join us on campus for a day of Culture, Free FOOD, Activities, during the HonCC International Education Committee’s Spring Event, Japan from North to South: Exploring Hokkaido and Okinawa. All students, faculty and staff are WELCOME!

When: Thursday, March 9, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM

Where: HonCC’s own Hale ‘Aina Cafeteria

What: Cultural Exploration of Hokkaido and Okinawa

Activities will be ongoing from starting at 11:00, including fan-decorating, temporary Jomon tattooing, and delicious andagi…all FREE!

10:15 AM – 11:00 AM “Uchinaaguchi: What it is, and isn’t; what it has
been, is now, and perhaps will be”, Professor Andy Curry of UH Manoa

11:15 AM – 11:45 PM “Standing on the edge: Hokkaido and Okinawa as ‘Japan’ ” Professor Pat Patterson of Honolulu Community College

12:00 PM – 12:30 PM “Ainu Mosir and the Pacific”, Mapu Hayashi Simpliciano of UH Manoa

1:00 PM – 1:35 PM “Okinawan Music and Dance”, Professor Charlene Gima of Honolulu Community College

1:35 PM Nada Sousou – A group song led by HonCC’s Jill Teraizumi

All events are free! No pre-registration necessary. Just come and sign in on the day of the event to receive your food ticket and join as many activities as you wish. This is also a good opportunity to learn more about study abroad opportunities.
