fundraiser if the "no work" option is available.
New Business
- Faculty Development Website - Jerry encouraged all committee
members to click around the Faculty Development Website and report any
broken or misdirected links to him to fix. He also suggested if members
know of any resources for any of the sections, let him know and they could
be posted.
- Fall activities - Jerry announced that several activities are
planned for this fall:
- Mediation Workshop - co-presented with the Pacific Asians Affairs
Council and HCC Office of International Affairs. This workshop will be
presented at 9:00 am today following the committee meeting.
- Student Services Workshop - Friday, October 12, 11:00 am. This is
the second of a series of three workshops that faculty can attend to
become a "Certified HCC Recruiter." The first was one of the three

Funai coordinated this series of workshops. A locally produced
certificate will be given to all faculty members who attend all three
workshops.
- Distance Education Instructor Workshop - Jan Petersen recently met
with Jerry and the first of a series of workshops for Distance Education
instructors will be offered Friday, November 9. The first workshop will
include a needs assessment to determine what assistance the instructors
want/need.
- Sakai Workshop - Jerry will be meeting with Interim Vice
Chancellor of Academic Affairs Erika Lacro and others next week to discuss
a faculty development initiative for faculty using WebCT who have to
migrate to Sakai. More information is to follow.

past summer would be willing to give a First Friday presentation on their
travels on Friday, November 2.

this years Excellence in Education Conference will be a Wo Innovation in

invited to the November Faculty Development Committee meeting to fill the
committee members in on the planning so far and how the committee can
assist with this day.
- Newsletter - Jerry has completed a draft of the Fall Faculty
Development Newsletter. He will share the draft with Grace and Ralph and
it will be published on or before October 26.

Application was approved. It is currently posted as a form-fillable
application on the Faculty Development Website. The following dates were
approved for fall submissions:
- Friday, November 2 - application deadline
- Friday, November 9 - funds to be awarded for the fall
As in the past, any major travel request submitted in the fall will
be
evaluated with all other major travel requests in the spring. Also as in

the Hawaii Great Teachers Seminar on the Big Island next August.
Open Discussion
- Jerry announced that the money needed to pay for the Ed Nuhfer
Knowledge Survey workshops, which were delivered on September 21, will
come from a active Assessment Account. Although the committee member
