Impressionist and Pointillist Art


This is a copy of Van Gogh's "Park of the Saint-Paul-De-Mausole Asylum"

This is a close up of the area bounded by the white rectangle on the painting at left. Note how the brush strokes are just enough to suggest the shapes of the trees and clouds. The details are left to the mind of the beholder.

This is a close-up copy of Miro's "The Peasant". Notice how the face is barely discernable. Like the Van Gogh's above, there is just enough detail to allow the mind of the beholder to create the image of a man. Click here to see the entire painting.

Here's a familiar image. Get up and walk across the room and look at the picture. Then walk slowly towards the computer screen while you look at it. Notice how the form becomes most recognizable at a certain distance.
