At the beginning of every semester, your course instructors will provide a check-in activity that you are required to complete during the first week of the semester in order to establish academic engagement in the courses you are registered in.
A welcome announcement from your faculty will provide the details on the required check-in activity. As a reminder, Non-Participation within the first week of the semester may result in disenrollment. Detailed information on the UH System EP 7.209 can be found at Student Participation Verification in Coursework.
If you have any questions, please contact your academic counselor.
Fall 2025 Information
Your success depends on you participating in your registered courses. Students who fail to participate during the participation period will be administratively dropped from the class. Students may also be dropped from co-requisite classes if participation is not established in both courses.
Your instructor will verify your active class participation. Verification of your participation is required to remain registered in the class. In many classes, this may be done in Lamakū. Please notify your instructor if you have any questions about your participation. If you are unsure of how your participation is being verified for a class, please contact your instructor.
You may establish participation in a variety of ways including (but not limited to):
- Attending a synchronous class, lecture, recitation, or field or laboratory activity, physically or online, where there is opportunity for interaction between the instructor and students;
- Submitting an academic assignment;
- Taking an assessment or an exam;
- Participating in an interactive tutorial, webinar, or other interactive computer-assisted instruction;
- Participating in a study group, group project, or an online discussion that is assigned by the institution;
- Interacting with an instructor about academic affairs
Your participation will not be considered “verified” by any of the following:
- Logging into an online class or tutorial without any further involvement;
- Participating in academic counseling or advisement
- Living in university housing;
- Participating in the institution’s meal plan
If you have not participated in your class by the end of the add/drop period, you will be administratively dropped from the class.
