Students who wish to drop all their Honolulu Community College courses must officially withdraw via STAR GPS. Students must withdraw themselves from their unwanted classes by the published deadlines (see Academic Calendar) in order to avoid academic and financial consequences. If a student stops attending class or never attends class and does not officially withdraw by the deadline, the instructor may assign an “F” grade.
- Classes that are semester-length and are:
- Officially dropped during the first three weeks of instruction each semester will not appear on the student’s Academic Record.
- Officially dropped after the first three weeks will be assigned a “W” on the student’s Academic Record. Students may drop classes and receive a “W” grade up to the deadline stated in the academic calendar.
- Classes that are not semester-length and are:
- Dropped during the first 20% of calendar days within the published class dates will not appear on the student’s Academic Record.
- Dropped after the first 20% and up to the first 60% of the calendar days within the published class dates will be assigned a grade of “W” on the student’s Academic Record.
Tuition refunds are only given to students who withdraw during the appropriate tuition refund periods, which occur early in the semester. Check our academic calendar for the 100% and 50% tuition refund deadlines.
Accelerated and Modular (Part-of-Term) Classes
Modular or accelerated courses, which are shorter than semester-long classes and have different start and end dates, have different withdrawal and tuition refund deadlines than full-term classes. These deadlines generally come up much faster for accelerated classes – in some cases within the first few days of class – because the courses themselves run for a shorter period of time.
