Honolulu Community College (HonCC) scholarships are awarded on the basis of merit, academic performance, and/or financial need. UH System Scholarships are open to students who are admitted as a degree-seeking student.
Hawai’i Promise Scholarship
The Hawai’i Promise Scholarship is a “last dollar” scholarship that provides free in-state tuition
for qualified University of Hawai’i Community College students who need financial help to pay

For eligible students, the Hawaii Promise Scholarship provides assistance to help cover direct
costs – including tuition, fees, books and supplies (that are not met by other forms of financial
aid).
Eligibility Requirements
- Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
- Be a State of Hawaii resident or qualify for exempt status that pays in-state tuition.
- Be enrolled in at least 6 credits per semester applicable to student’s program at a UH Community College and at least 1 credit at the home institution
- Be degree-seeking in a financial aid eligible program.
- Must accept all federal and state grants, scholarships, and any other funding sources that do not require repayment
- Maintain satisfactory academic progress
- Must not possess a bachelor’s degree.
Awards are contingent upon funding, and amounts are based on enrollment level, financial need, and other financial resources.
The amount of the scholarship may be reduced or cancelled due to enrollment changes and/or receipt of scholarships or outside resources (e.g. VA benefits).
Hawai’i B+ Scholarship
The Hawaiʻi B+ Scholarship is a University of Hawaiʻi (UH) scholarship available to Hawaiʻi resident students at Hawai’i CC who enroll in the school year directly following graduation from a State of Hawaiʻi public high school. Students must have earned a minimum 3.0 high school GPA, completed a rigorous high school curriculum as defined by the State of Hawai’i, and have financial need as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
A rigorous high school curriculum is currently defined as 4 credits of English, 3 credits of math (including Algebra I and Geometry), 3 credits of science (including Biology), and 3 credits of college preparatory coursework, such as foreign languages, fine arts, and social sciences.
Requirements: Attend college directly after high school graduation, graduate of a State of Hawai’i public high school, minimum 3.0 high school GPA, rigorous high school curriculum, Hawai’i resident, UH Common Scholarship Application, FAFSA, financial need, minimum full-time enrollment
Find Scholarships
Scholarships are made available by the generosity of private individuals and organizations who wish to reward students for a wide variety of accomplishments, including, but not limited to, academic achievement, service to the school and community, leadership ability, first-generation college-going, and specific major and career choices. Some take into consideration financial need and unique personal backgrounds. Availability of certain scholarships is dependent upon the availability of funds.

Lahainaluna Scholarship
In September 2023, President Lassner announced that the University of Hawaiʻi is offering scholarships to Lahainaluna High School (LHS) Class of 2024 seniors to attend any of UH’s 10 campuses.

However, you may be able to find other sources through family, friends, instructors, and counselors. Please note that not all scholarship websites are legitimate. Most scholarships will not require payment or confidential information (ie, social security number, bank account number, credit card information).
