HiNet Program
About the Program
The HiNET Program (Hawaii Nutrition, Employment, and Training) is a federally funded program designed to help remove barriers and provide students with access to education and skills-training opportunities, so they can earn a living wage and achieve financial independence. Honolulu Community College (HonCC) offers this program in partnership with the State of Hawai‘i and other service providers to deliver assistance and support for college and workforce training. We will advise you on job training or retraining courses. Other service providers will provide you with support to cover transportation, childcare, books, uniforms and school supplies and job search assistance.
Students who qualify may be eligible to receive:
- Tuition Assistance
- Assistance with Books and Mandatory Fees (funds pending)
- Service Learning
- Workforce Training
- Educational Advising, Academic Coaching and Personal Support
- Support Services such as:
- Bus Pass
- Gas Money
- Tutoring
- Emergency Costs
- Employment Advising
- Uniforms
- Career Coaching
- Job Search Assistance
- Resume Writing
- Supplemental Instruction

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program
About the Program
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is a federal program funded through the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and administered at the federal level through its Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) department. The SNAP program provides crucial food and nutritional support to qualifying low-income and needy households, and those making the transition from welfare to self-sufficiency.
Are You Eligible?
State agencies administer the program at the state and local levels, including determination of eligibility and monthly allotments. In Hawaii, this service is provided by the Department of Human Services (DHS) Benefit, Employment & Support Services Division (BESSD).
- You must be a resident of the State of Hawai‘i to be eligible for money and/or SNAP benefits.
