Counseling Mission
To enhance the environment and opportunities in which students learn skills and attitudes that make them responsible for their career, education, and life success.
Nature of Services
Counselors provide prospective, new, and continuing students with short-term, solution-focused counseling and guidance services as they pertain to the student’s attainment of academic goals and achievement. Psychological counseling is not provided by the counseling staff. Should your concerns require longer-term or specialized counseling outside the scope of services, the counselor may recommend a referral off-campus. Specific goals of the staff are:
- To provide accurate information about program and transfer requirements.
- To provide strategies for all students to persist in college.
- To teach students self-directive and planning skills applicable to college and life.
- To provide students with the tools for effective communication and decision-making.
- To provide career-counseling services to prospective and enrolled students that will assist them in identifying career and educational goals.
Counselor Credentials
Minimum qualification for all counselors is a Master’s degree in a related field or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field plus three years of experience. You are entitled to ask questions and receive information regarding any counselor’s specific credentials.

All communication between you and a counselor is confidential. However, please be aware that counseling services are being provided in an open office setting where others may be able to overhear your conversation. If it is important to you that your concerns not be overheard, please advise the counselor. Concerning academic records, we will use and protect your information in compliance with the Family Educational & Privacy Rights Act (FERPA). There are several exceptions to confidentiality, which are listed below.
